Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes
by Eric Litwin
Pete the Cat is a favorite around here. We tend to read mostly classic children’s literature, but we received this contemporary tale as a Christmas present last year, and we fell in love fast. It is such a fun, laid-back story with a natural rhythm and a great message.
In the book, Pete steps in various things as he’s walking along — strawberries, blueberries, mud, and water — which change the color of his shoes. ”Does Pete cry? Goodness no! He keeps walking along and singing his song.” If only we all could handle unexpected transitions so easily, right?!
If you have a chance to get the version of the book that comes with an audio CD, I highly recommend it. Ours is from Scholastic. It’s the author, Eric Litwin, himself reading/singing the book, and you will not be able to read it any other way once you hear it. It’s so catchy!
Here’s a live telling/singing of the story (also by the author) on YouTube which is similar to the audio CD, and is also fun to watch and listen to!
