Hi! I’m Genny! I’m a former elementary teacher and reading specialist turned stay-at-home-mom to two. Since May 2011, I’ve been writing the blog, In Lieu of Preschool where I share all the fun and learning we do at home…in lieu of preschool. I have 7 years of classroom teaching experience: five in 5th grade Language Arts and Social Studies, and two as a K-5 Title I Reading Intervention specialist. My undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education (K-6) with a concentration in English, and my master’s degree is in Reading Education (K-12). I also received National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood/Literacy: Reading -Language Arts during my teaching career.
I quit working when my first child was born in 2008 and have been blessed to be a stay at home mom since. My children, Luke and Lilah, are 18 months apart in age. I love being able to see them learn and grow day by day, and I love being their first teacher. We do lots of reading, arts and crafts, and early learning activities which we love to share, in hopes that what we do will motivate or inspire others!
I love to spend quality time with my family, vacation at the beach, teach, read, and write. My lifelong dream is to become a children’s author, and I’m currently in the process of publishing my first children’s picture book. I’m so excited I can hardly stand it! Stay tuned; it should be out in just a few months!!
